How to Accessorize the Right Way

How to Accessorize the Right Way

The right accessories can make any outfit much more interesting than it previously was and elevate even the simplest styles to something far more special.

However, so many people do not know how to accessorize well. They either overdo it snd end up looking too try-hard or a bit more quirky than they are aiming for or they are too understated and are left with an underwhelming outfit as a result.

In this post, we are going to look at how you can accessorize the right way, by which I mean how you can accessorize to get the most positive impact from your outfits.

Of course, there is no real right and wrong way to dress yourself, and if you like how you look feel free to go for it, but if you are new to accessories and you want to know how you can get the most value for them, hopefully, this post will help.

Buy the best you can afford

Some people love costume jewelry and more affordable accessories so they can have more of them and change up their looks more often. That is totally fine. However, if you want to look timelessly sophisticated and create your own signature style, it can be worth investing in fewer accessories of a higher quality.

Those 1 carat diamond stud earrings will not only last longer than your cheaper costume earrings, but they will also look much more classic and they will likely complement a lot more of your outfits.

By choosing high-quality classic accessories, from silk scarves to emerald brooches, you can ensure that your accessories are always in, and not have to worry about following the latest fashion trends so much.

Choose contrasting colors

There was once a time when your accessories like your shoes and handbag, would have to match the rest of your outfit to meet the fashion standards of the day. This is no longer the case, and actually, your outfit can look a whole lot more interesting if you choose contrasting colors instead because it will give your outfit more depth.

If contrasting colors really aren’t your thing, however, you could think about choosing accessories that are in a slightly different shade of the same color. This will give you a more sophisticated, less attention-grabbing style that will nevertheless look great.

Balance it out

Good style is all about balance, especially when it comes to accessorizing. You do not want to have one part of your body loaded with accessories and another that is completely bare. Many people think balance means having two of everything, but actually, stacking bangles or layering rings in multiples of 3 can often work better.

Not only that, but balance can also mean balancing out say a huge pair of statement hoop earrings with a more simple necklace so that your outfit is not overwhelming.

Make a statement with a single piece

Using a single piece of jewelry to create a statement is a great way to get more attention with your outfit and bring out the features you are looking to highlight. For example, if you have beautiful hair, then tying a bold silk scarf around your head will immediately draw the eye, or if you have a stunning slender neck, then choosing an extravagant pendant necklace will ensure it gets the attention it deserves.

Or try the layered look

Of course, the big bold statement is not the only way to do things. Many people prefer to wear multiple pieces of jewelry and other accessories at the same time. If you are one of them, then layering your accessories is the best way to make them all look good separately and shine together.

What do I mean by layering? I mean that you should think very carefully about each accessory you put on your body and how it will contribute to your look as a whole. It’s important not to go overboard, but you can create a very unique and stylish look by adding lots of pieces together.

For example, you could tie a silk scarf to your handbag to add more color and texture while also stacking up two or three bangles made from different metals to add more contrast to your outfit.

Basically, if you can group things together that complement each other well while also adding different colors, textures, and styles, but you don’t throw everything but the kitchen sink at it, you can look fabulous, and more importantly, your style will be totally unique to you.

If it’s formal, it should match

Despite what I have just said about mixing metals if you are heading off to a formal event, and you plan to wear earrings and a necklace or a watch and a bracelet, it is important that you match your metals.

Mixing up rose and yellow gold can work well in an informal setting, but it can end up looking like you haven’t put much effort in when you are attending a black-tie event or similar. So, if your earrings are white gold, so should your necklace be, for example.

Choose long necklaces

If you are looking for necklaces that will always look good, then choose a longer, more slender chain if you can. Why? Because long-chained necklaces look just as good when styled with formal dresses as they do with simple jeans and t-shirt outfits, where they can add an extra point of interest to a plain shirt, for example. Whereas. Shorter chains only really work well with lower necklines.

Do it your way

All that being said, there really are no rules when it comes to accessorizing, and if you want to break each and every one of these ideas apart to create your own unique style, you go ahead and do you, I’m sure you will look fabulous in either case.

As you can see, it is actually pretty simple to get accessorizing right with a little thought and effort. Now, all you need to do is to stet experimenting with your accessories until you find the right balance that works for you, bearing in mind all of the information above.
